_ORGANISATION OVERVIEW _

Ballarat Basketball is a not-for-profit community-based Basketball Association focused on developing the game of basketball in the City of Ballarat.


Proudly providing the communities of Western Victoria with opportunities to participate in indoor sports for over 40 years, Ballarat Basketball has grown and developed over this time into the organisation it is today.


In 2024 they boast a diverse and growing business which operates competitions across a range of sports for people of all ages, a successful hospitality business, a range of community programs and elite teams participating in national competitions that attract athletes from around the world.

These current programs see 8,500 users interact with Basketball Ballarat each week.


The organisation boasts a state of the art $24 million 8 court indoor sports precinct, which also houses a café, bistro / sports lounge, commercial gym, consulting suites and 3 outdoor 3on3 basketball courts.

This, along with the privately owned 4 courts at the Minerdome provide the community of Ballarat and Western Victoria with all they need to participate in indoor sports.


_OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION _
The primary role of the Referee Manager is to develop and expand our current referee program.

The Referee Manager reports to the Competitions Manager, and is expected to work closely with referees, referee supervisors and staff.

They must also provide a high level of customer service and have strong organisational skills to enable them to be able to deliver outcomes while working to deadlines in a sometimes challenging and fast paced environment.


_MAIN ROLES OF REFEREE MANAGER_

  • Recruitment, organization and development of referees and referee supervisors/educators.
  • Establish referee plan and program including training/camps and events.
  • Establish and maintain database of referees.
  • Liaise with the Basketball Department and Technical Officials Committee to provide technical expertise, leadership and to set culture expectations for the referee body
  • Administer and present referee courses and referee development programs as per the Basketball Australia Referee Pathway.
  • Administer all duties relating to scheduling referees for all competitions and programs managed by Basketball Ballarat including tournament events and Representative games where required.
  • Manage the assessment and grading of each referee.
  • Create and maintain a positive officials' community (referees, bench, supervisors and educators).
  • Respond to queries and complaints in a professional manner within Ballarat Basketball policies and procedure.
  • Assist with incident/tribunal reports as well as any game and/or competition rulings.

_ESSENTIAL CRITERIA _

  • Working with children check.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to discuss and resolve problems
  • Competent with Microsoft Suite, Play Hq and Refbook programs.
  • Excellent knowledge of FIBA basketball rules and refereeing.
  • Be able to work effectively as part of a team and have the capacity to represent Ballarat Basketball throughout the relevant competitions.
  • Solution orientated problem solver with a proactive approach and proven initiative.
  • Be able to work with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to handle conflict and deescalate situations
