Head of Group Operations Compliance

The Group Operations Line 2 Compliance team provides independent advice, assurance and approvals on Compliance for the Chief Operations Office (COO) support units (SU), who deliver the Group's banking operations functions.


The Operations Compliance Team supports the COO by:

  • Implementing and continuously improving a risk management framework aligned to COO Risk Appetite and Risk Management Strategy
  • Providing independent advice, assurance and approvals on all components of the Compliance Management Framework (CMF)
  • Acting as a trusted advisor to assist the business to achieve compliance with Group policy, legislative and regulatory requirements
  • Developing and managing key stakeholder relationships

As the Head of Group Operations Compliance, you assist the General Manager in development, leading and execution of managing and enhancing compliance risk management in COO.


You will lead and support the team through:

  • Driving consistent and sustainable implementation of the Compliance Management Framework (CMF) and related policies and standards across the Group to ensure appropriate frameworks to meet particular regulatory obligations are in place and operating effectively (or if not, implementing improvement measures)
  • Providing advice, oversight and assurance, approval or acceptance to Line 1 on compliance management of the CMF including issue management, incident management, breach reporting, regulatory change and engagement, risk and controls, obligations management, compliance reporting and compliance management best practise
  • Implementing and embedding framework changes across the Group by gaining appropriate buyin and signoff and building strong stakeholder relationships
  • Developing insights and reporting to senior management and the Board (and its Committees as appropriate) on emerging or surfaced material compliance risks, material correspondence and interactions with applicable regulators, industry best practices in peer organisations and advising COO/CCO of the requirements of the current expectations
  • Responsible for discharging Line 2 accountabilities under the CMF including managing assessing compliance implications for change initiatives, regulatory change, obligations management summaries and register manager activities as applicable to COO
  • Overseeing regulatory engagement for COO activities
  • Responsible for delivering Line 2 compliance enablement and optimisation activities including enhanced use of automation
Leadership;

  • Membership of Technology and Operations Compliance Leadership Team
  • Personally role model the leadership behaviour required of leaders
  • Effective and constructive contribution to the Compliance Team and the broader Risk Management function, with a focus on collaboration and embedding a risk culture across the function
  • Lead, actively manage, coach and effectively develop the COO Compliance team

  • Proven experience in leading Line 2 compliance teams
  • Experience in banking operations
  • Evident leadership experience and capability
  • Attention to detail and an ability to understand and navigate complex business operations
  • Ability to work with senior stakeholders across the Group
  • Exceptional organisational and time management skills
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
