A highly experienced Principal Coastal Engineer, to lead our coastal management team, delivering Coast WA as part of our Fremantle based Maritime Planning team.

As our Principal Coastal Engineer, you will lead a professional, engaged team providing specialist advice on coastal processes and undertake a sustainable approach to coastal management and engineering. You will be a key part of delivering Coast WA, which delivers a State Government investment of $33.5 million over five years from This includes supporting local coastal managers developing and reviewing complex coastal engineering designs and investigations, overseeing coastal grants programs and research programs, and providing exceptional technical expertise on matters of coastal management and engineering. You will be integral to preparing grant proposals for coastal management projects, and you will facilitate budget submissions and business cases to support further investment into Western Australia's response to climate change in our coastal communities.

Occasionally, you will be also required to travel intrastate and interstate for short periods and work in remote locations.

To succeed in this role, you will be solutions focused, a strong leader, able to manage complex projects and be capable of taking a lead role in the provision of expert coastal engineering advice on behalf of the department.

This is a unique and exciting opportunity to be involved in the delivery of a strategic response to the coastal erosion and inundation hotspots in Western Australia, providing strong State leadership and partnership with local government in addressing the increasing threat of coastal hazard across Western Australia. About you

  • Demonstrate extensive experience in the investigation, analysis, design, and construction of coastal structures.
  • Effectively manage sizeable and complex maritime and coastal engineering projects
  • Display highly developed communication and negotiation skills.
  • Cultivate strong, effective working relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders,
  • Lead, manage, mentor and coach staff within the Business Unit.
