Who we are

In Melbourne, water is crucial to our daily lives. Whether you're hydrating, flushing, watering plants in the yard, or enjoying outdoor activities, we play a key role. If you value meaningful contributions, embracing curiosity, and doing what's ethical, you've found the right place.

About the Role

Joining the Service Strategy team under the Manager of Drinking Water Strategy & Policy, Service Futures, you will hold a pivotal position as an Engineer/Scientist specializing in Drinking Water Quality Planning. Your primary responsibility is to guarantee that Melbourne Water remains committed to delivering safe, reliable, and affordable drinking water through collaborative risk-based planning. Your role involves driving evidence-based risk management programs and adaptive service plans to enhance drinking water quality outcomes. Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing projects to develop, critically review, and implement relevant drinking water quality business cases, planning investigations, and strategies to fulfill Melbourne Water's statutory obligations and strategic vision.
  • Guiding an integrated, evidence-based approach to decision-making and prioritizing planning for drinking water quality within the broader context of the entire water cycle.

Please note that this role is part-time, and the successful candidate will work four days a week.

About you

  • You must hold a tertiary degree in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline, preferably with a postgraduate qualification in science or engineering.
  • You should have foundational technical knowledge in areas such as human health and ecological risk assessment, source water protection for drinking water, water treatment technologies, microbiology, and analytical techniques.
  • Detailed understanding of drinking water quality risk management principles and proficiency in risk-based planning is essential.
  • Demonstrated experience with preventive risk management frameworks and management systems like ISO 9001/HACCP/ISO 22000.
  • Strong project management skills, an outcome-focused approach, and adept knowledge in technical, health, safety, and environmental issues in the water industry are required.
