About the role

The Policy officer is responsible for:

  • Preparing and maintaining documentation for reporting, monitoring and evaluation purposes to ensure accessibility of quality information.
  • Contribute to the achievement of project outcomes, and support effective decision making.
  • Undertake research, evaluation and analysis to identify emerging issues and prepare recommendations to resolve policy
  • Communicate with key stakeholders and coordinate working groups, committees and consultations
  • Address and respond to changing issues and priorities

Essential requirements of the role

  • Hold a current and valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) (for paid employment)
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.

Key knowledge and experience

  • Experience in working in a policy environment including policy analysis, development and review
  • Sound understanding of the policy process
  • Experience in planning, coordinating and reporting on stakeholder engagement
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department's Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department's Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.

About you

  • Sound organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively, meet deadlines and deliver high quality work
  • Adaptability and ability to operate effectively in a complex, sensitive and changing environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an eye for detail Demonstrated experience in policy analysis and development and/or highly transferable and applicable experience.
