The Licensing and Advisory Services (LAS) unit is responsible for administering fou streams of operations - processing and advising on licensing and authorisations; the provision of advice on work health and electrical safety matters; triaging of workplace incident and complaint notifications; and compliance and business engagement to support the licensing framework.

The Advisory Services team implements the licensing and authorisations framework including high risk work, accredited assessors, asbestos removalist and assessor, demolition and plant registration, as well as providing advice to stakeholders and thegeneral public on work health and electrical safety matters.

Subject Matter Advisors (SMAs) are required to provide high quality, accurate information to the clients of OIR about a broad range of workplace health and safety matters including Work Health and Safety legislation, Electrical Safety legislation, all codes of practice adopted by WHSQ, and any additional services, programs and initiatives undertaken by WHSQ.

SMAs are also required to have an awareness and understanding of jurisdictional boundaries and cross-jurisdictional matters in order to inform clients about other avenues of information and services.

As a first point of contact for members of the public, SMAs must be exceptional communicators with substantial experience tailoring written and verbal communication to suit the needs of a diverse range of stakeholders.

SMAs are also responsible for receiving and managing serious and sensitive complaints and incident reporting, requiring exceptional conflict-management skills and high levels of resilience.
