There are two exciting opportunities to join the Government Partnerships team with the Policy,Planning and Investment Division at the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR).

In the role of Principal Advisor (State and National Partnerships) inTMR's Government Partnerships team,you will be part of the team responsible for an intergovernmental relations function within the department, with a strong focus on national policy coordination,and partnerships with governments and government bodies.

There is 1 x permanent opportunity and 1 x temporary opportunity for 9 months available on either a full-time or part-time basis.

In this role, you will be required to work across the Government Partnerships team in response to business needs to ensure effective delivery of broader team priorities and workload.
Some of your responsibilities will include:

• Analysing complex inter-governmental policy issues and providing strategic advice in relation to the national transport reform agenda, in consultation with internal subject-matter experts and external stakeholders to ensure adherence to government conventions, policies and processes.

• Leading, developing and coordinating high quality and timely briefing materials in relation to national transport policy issues, and high-level advice and support to the
Minister, the Director-General and senior executives to facilitate effective participation at internal and external forums.

• Writing Cabinet submissions, briefing notes, reports, correspondence and recommendations about complex policy issues in relation to transport reform and emerging policy issues. Negotiating effectively across government and with stakeholders, in the context of supporting the department's objectives and desired outcomes, in collaboration with the team and TMR stakeholders.

• Developing and maintaining effective relationships and collaborative partnerships +with departmental business units and subject matter experts to ensure TMR positions are reflected in state and national transport policy agendas.

• Representing TMR at intergovernmental meetings, operating in a professional manner and articulately and concisely presenting TMR positions.

• Undertaking project management activities to ensure projects are on track and meeting milestones and timeframes.

• Working collaboratively and constructively within the Government Partnerships team to contribute to a strong, cohesive and high performing work unit, including supporting the Manager State and National Partnerships in the delivery of team objectives, and actively participating in performance conversations to build and support a culture of performance excellence.

To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate your ability to:

• Undertake public policy analysis, think critically and analyse available and relevant information, advise on policy and legislation and make recommendations based on sound judgment and evidence.

• Communicate complex information in a clear, succinct and deliberate manner written and verbally, adjusting the message so that it resonates with different stakeholders.

• Utilise strong interpersonal and communication skills to build and maintain successful professional relationships and networks across TMR, central agencies and with interjurisdictional colleagues.

• Collaborate, negotiate, influence, and coordinate multiple stakeholder inputs, to drive outcomes.

• Work collaboratively with team members and complete tasks by managing priorities and managing tight deadlines.

• Adjust to and work in an evolving environment, changing expectations, and ambiguity through role modelling persistence and perseverance to overcome obstacles
