Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) is responsible for providing primary and secondary health care for people living in the Auburn, Blacktown, and The Hills Shire, Holroyd and Parramatta Local Government Areas (LGAs) and tertiary care to residents of the Greater Western Region.

What you'll be doing
Safe Start is a prevention, early intervention and treatment framework to improve the mental health outcomes of NSW Families.

The initiative focuses on the early identification and integrated service management of risk factors in early pregnancy and throughout the first 2 years of life.

The model uses a community strength approach, which has the potential to reduce the burden of mental health problems in children and families.

This position is responsible for the provision of essential perinatal and infant mental health consultation and liaison functions across Mental Health, Drug & Alcohol, Maternity, Child & Family Health, General Practioner and other services for families with multiple complex needs during the perinatal period.

The role will incorporate both the coordination of and provision of perinatal and infant mental health consultation liaison.

The position will also be responsible for strategic leadership and development of Specialist Perinatal & Infant Mental Health Initiatives within WSLHD as well as the Perinatal & Infant Mental Health Services within the Perinatal Child & Youth Mental Health Services.

The team provide both intensive mental health care and longer term care coordination and consultation for pregnant women and parents who are primary carers for an infant of up to 2 years of age, and who have severe and complex mental health problems.

Priority is based on severity of perinatal mental health illness and/or complex management or family and other social issues that impact on care of the infant.

Essential Criteria:

Qualification:
Psychologist, Social Worker, Occupational Therapist, Registered Nurse.

Registration in line with Award requirements: Fully registered with AHPRA as a Psychologist, Registered with Australian Association of Social Workers, Occupational Therapy Association, Nursing and Midwives State Award.


Selection Criteria:

  • Tertiary qualification in a clinical health field, such as Psychology, Social Work, Nursing, and Occupational Therapy; Registered Nurses require a minimum 5 years post qualification full time experience.
  • Previous experience in working with parents and families with infants experiencing severe and complex psycho social and psychiatric problems in the perinatal period with demonstrated knowledge of the impact of mental health problems and mental illness on parenting, parent infant relationships and infant development.
  • Proven clinical leadership skills and experience in clinical teaching.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Capacity to act as an independent consultant with excellent communication interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Current Drivers Licence valid within Australia.
