Key responsibilities include:

  • Deliver legal advisory services to a diverse range of departmental clients.
  • Exercise authority under the RTI, IP and FOI Acts for decisions on access to documents of the agency and/or official documents of the Minister.
  • Process requests for departmental information, departmental responses to external reviews and conduct internal reviews as necessary in accordance with the RTI, IP and FOI Acts.
  • Provide assistance in gathering information relating to enquiries and investigations, for example: The National Redress Scheme' Royal Commissions, Coronial Enquiries and in relation to the management of claims against the department including claims under the Personal Injuries Proceedings Act 2002 and Workers Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 200
  • Develop and deliver professional development training about compliance with RTI, IP,FOI Acts, privacy and policies administered by the branch.
  • Assist in development and management of systems, policies, procedures and practices to ensure the department effectively meets its obligations under the relevant legislation and court ordered processes for release of departmental information.
  • Undertake reporting tasks, and other tasks, as directed by the Executive Director, Director or Manager, Information Release, Legal Services.
