About the role
:

An exciting role exists for a driven and passionate Social Worker to join our dedicated Spinal Injury Unit.

As a key member of a multidisciplinary team, you will be providing high quality, evidence-based Social Work clinical service to Spinal Injury Unit (SIU) clients.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Counselling to assist clients and their family/carers to deal with the emotional impact of injury, illness and disability and to undertake case planning, liaison, advocacy and referral to maximise access to appropriate community services.
  • Liaise with multidisciplinary team colleagues to optimise client care.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the Social Work service.
  • Comply with Royal Rehab and Social Work (SW) policies and procedures.
  • Undertake other duties as required by Spinal Injury Unit Clinical Operational Manager (COM) or Social Work Professional Leader.

Essential Criteria:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers and commitment to the AASW Code of Ethics.
  • 3 years post graduate experience as a social worker.
  • Demonstrable clinical skills in assessment, counselling, advocacy, referral to community services and discharge planning in a health/rehabilitation setting.
  • Demonstrated competence in communication skills written and verbal, negotiation, conflict resolution.
  • Sound time management skills and demonstrated ability to set priorities and complete tasks.
  • Demonstrated personal commitment to participation in supervision and professional development.
  • Computer skills and demonstrated competency.
  • Current NSW C unrestricted C Drivers licence.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Spinal experience.
  • Experience in the supervision of students or willingness to learn.
