About the Role


Cyber Security NSW is looking for a Cyber Security Analyst, focusing on incident response, to join our Intelligence and Response Team.

The Intelligence and Response Team leads and coordinates intelligence and the NSW Government response to incidents across all of NSW Government.

The team combines both cyber security knowledge and processes with intelligence methodologies to monitor, assess and report on the cyber threat landscape.


The Incident Response team works closely with internal and external stakeholders during incident response, triaging, monitoring and investigating cyber security incidents, providing remediation advice and coordinating across affected groups; and provides technical expertise and analysis to deliver advice, intelligence and reporting on cyber security threats and incidents.


The Operational Intelligence team provides intelligence expertise and analysis to deliver advice, intelligence and reporting on cyber security threats and incidents; and supports NSW Government responses to cyber security issues, risks and threats.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Collaborate with external stakeholders to identify, assess and alert agencies and executives to cyber security issues, threats and vulnerabilities
  • Provide expert support to NSW Government clusters, agencies and councils during incident response, including investigating potential cyber security incidents and providing technical expertise and advice
  • Identify stakeholder requirements and prioritise workload to meet agreed outcomes and timeframes

About you
To be successful in this role you will have the following skills and experience:

  • Knowledge, experience and understanding in fields such as (but not limited to):
  • Windows and UNIX/Linux operating systems
- networks administration
- cloud technology
- security technology

  • IT operations and incident management
Experience in IT incident or problem management and investigating cyber incidents.

  • Ability to effectively communicate, interpret and analyse technical information to stakeholders, including senior staff and executives on incidents, threats, vulnerabilities and breaches.
  • Demonstrated experience in working within a cyber security environment and an awareness of current trends in IT security.
  • Skills or experience with tools or techniques used in digital forensics and/or threat hunting will be highly regarded.
  • Qualifications, certifications and experience in ICT and cyber security.
  • Be willing to work flexibly in response to cyber incidents and be available outside of "standard" working hours e.g. being part of an oncall roster.
  • Contribute to process improvements and initiatives to ensure responses are efficiently and effectively handled.

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on cyber security threats and issues in order to monitor, detect, report and share information and intelligence on incidents, threats and trends to support informed decision making.
  • Proactively monitor, identify, assess and alert agencies and executives to cyber security issues and threats.
  • Analyse and assess cyber threats to government services, assets and information to determine attribution, motivation and capability.
  • Provide expert support to NSW Government departments, agencies and councils during incident response, provide expertise and advice, and investigate potential cyber security incidents.
  • Identify stakeholder requirements and prioritise workload to meet agreed outcomes and timeframes

About you
To be successful in this role you will have the following skills, knowledge and experience:

  • An awareness of current trends in the ever evolving cyber security threat environment.
  • Experience with tools and techniques used in intelligence, data analysis, digital forensics, and/or threat hunting; in particular in monitoring and navigating activities on the dark web.
  • Demonstrated experience in real time intelligence analysis on emerging tactics, techniques and procedures used by threat actors.
  • An ability to react quickly in assessing and responding to cyber incidents in order to ensure a prompt and efficient containment and mitigation process.
  • Willingness to be oncall and work flexibility in response to cyber threats and incidents.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to explain technical concepts to different audiences, from executives and senior stakeholders to security teams.
  • Excellent problem solving skills and the ability to proactively manage your own workload and tasks.
