About the job


We have an opportunity for an experienced Business Improvement Specialist to join the team based at the WA Mining Hub in Pinjarra.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to work at both of our Bauxite Mines in WA, Huntly and Willowdale.

Both sites are within driving distance of Mandurah and surrounds, providing you with the opportunity to work on site while still enjoying the luxuries of living close to Perth.


The primary role of the Business Improvement Specialist is to demonstrate change through developing, coordinating and implementing management systems and executing initiates which drive business improvement.


This role is responsible for undertaking the requisite business analysis such that business improvement opportunities can be identified, scope and execute, track and report opportunities across mining.

Improvement initiatives must deliver tangible and provide sustainable benefits.

In this role, you will:

  • Work with the location line management to deploy the WA Mining strategic improvement plans.
  • Provide support to the business by facilitating the development, coordination, and implementation of business improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in the identification of opportunities to reduce cost, increase production, improve safety and culture and maintain the improvement project pipeline.
  • Assist with business improvement project management and delivery.This position is a key steppingstone to leadership positions in Alcoa and your success will be measured by the improvements you deliver to the business
About you

To play a part in our ongoing success we are seeking someone with:

  • Bachelors or Master's degree in Engineering or Business Administration
  • Experience working within Operations and or Maintenance in Mining
  • Experience and qualifications in Six Sigma or other Lean methodologies
  • A drive to identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives
  • Demonstrated operational change management experience
  • A strong level of communication and interpersonal skills to be able to interact and influence at all levels
  • Attention to detail and proficient problem-solving abilities
