Position Description

The McGill University Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences is inviting applications for a full-time position at the rank of Assistant Professor (Clinical) based at the St. Mary's Hospital Centre of the CIUSSS West Central Montreal. This will be a three-year (renewable) Contract Academic Staff appointment and does not confer eligibility for tenure.

Our hospital has a level 2A neonatal unit and focuses on low-risk obstetrical care with deliveries above 34 weeks of gestational age. The volume of deliveries is up to 4,000 per year and we pride ourselves in being the first baby friendly certified hospital on the island of Montreal. Our team includes 20 specialists in obstetrics and gynecology; we provide 24-hours in-house coverage and are consultants for the family medicine obstetrics group. We are also a referral center for two maisons de naissance. Our department also performs a high volume of benign gynecological surgeries, minimally invasive surgeries, as well as outpatient gynecological clinic and colposcopy.

Job Duties

The successful candidate will be a member of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and will be appointed to clinical practice at St-Mary's Hospital Center. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to academic endeavors of the Department, perform clinical duties, and attend the majority of departmental meetings and rounds. They will be an active member of the OBGYN on call group and will be allotted obstetrical call duties based on the group rules.

The successful candidate will also be expected to be actively involved in all aspects of McGill's academic mission (i.e., research, teaching, supervision of students and residents, and involvement in academic and administrative committees).

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Candidates must:

Hold an MD degree (or equivalent), or be eligible for, licensure in the province of Quebec;Have completed subspecialty training in Obstetrics and Gynecology;Be recognized with a minimum 1-year fellowship, with certification by the Collège des Médecins du Québec or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent);Hold a Master's degree or other postgraduate training (preferred, not required);Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec. Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families, and health care professionals.
