What's the job?


Reporting to the Executive Dean of Health and Education, the Head of Psychology is responsible for leading the academic delivery of psychology and related courses and managing their team within a 'Be Good' ethos, emphasising academic quality, strong and collegial teamwork, and positive student outcomes.

This is a national role that may have responsibility across the Australia and New Zealand and requires collaboration with SEI academic colleagues.


Day-to-day accountabilities:

  • Oversight of curriculum development and alignment with accreditation standards
  • Delivery of curriculum informed by scholarship, in collaboration with the Executive Dean, Associate Dean, and teaching teams.
  • Overseeing high quality, coherent and consistent delivery of curriculum across all courses and offers
  • Management of academic staff, including recruitment of suitably qualified academics, performance management, workload allocation, professional development, scholarship, and research
  • Facilitation of a research culture within their area, in collaboration with the Executive Dean and the Research Office
  • Performing academic discipline administration, relating to course and student admission and success, and responding to and resolving exceptional student enquiries.
  • Development and submission of APAC accreditation documentation, and ongoing oversight, maintenance and reporting of compliance with accreditation standards

This is a permanent full-time role with a preference to be located in Melbourne. This position will start in April/May 2023 ready for Trimester 2.

Who you are

To be successful in this role you will be:

  • Hold a PhD in Psychology or a cognate discipline
  • A track record of research activity recognised at the National or International level in the broad discipline of psychology
  • Solid experience of high-quality leadership in tertiary education
  • Solid experience with professional accreditation processes
  • Significant experience in HE environment-
  • Proven ability to effectively lead, motivate and influence others, especially in teaching and research excellence
