We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Assurance Specialist at our Perth CBD office, on a 8-Month Maximum Term basis.

About this role

As the Senior Assurance Specialist you will be required to support and provide independent and objective risk assurance and audit services designed to add value and improve Western Power's operations, legislative and regulatory compliance and stakeholders' objectives.

To develop and deliver the relevant Corporate and Functional audit and assurance programmes to assess compliance with legal obligations imposed on Western Power and compliance with relevant functional management processes and systems.

  • Assist in the development of the Western Power corporate, divisional and functional audit and assurance programmes with relevant aims and objectives.
  • Develop and agree audit specifications and protocols with stakeholder consultation to meet the aims and objectives in line with the Western Power audit standard.
  • Conduct the audit/ assurance programme as agreed with stakeholders, seeking appropriate evidence to assess compliance with the stated aims and objectives.
  • Develop the audit/ assurance reports with any agreed conclusions and SMART recommendations in conjunction with stakeholders allowing for suitable commentary from the auditee.
  • Ensure suitable tracking and governance of actions to meet the timeframes in recommendations including the closing out of audits.
  • Maintenance of relevant functional assurance records as required by the Western Power management systems.
  • Identify and manage existing or potential compliance breaches or management system non-conformances, which introduce or sustain an unacceptable business risk and support the business in monitoring and managing potential prosecutions.
  • Prepare reports on Western Power's legal and regulatory obligations including legislation, regulation & code review, and external requests for legislative consultation.
  • Provide and facilitate the timeliness and quality of reports issued to relevant regulators and other information such as Requests for Information requested by external stakeholders by reviewing prior to issue including documentation subject to legal professional privilege requirements.
  • Assess the significance of relevant incidents and implement processes to ensuring the effective reporting and governance of statutory notifiable incidents.
  • Establish, enact and strengthen, as necessary, technical safety and regulatory compliance programs and reporting systems to ensure timely and proactive compliance in accordance with relevant legislation and corporate requirements.
  • Participate in the review of changes to standards and work practices, legislation and assess the impacts to business operations and other regulatory compliance obligations.
  • Establish, develop and maintain valued day to day relationships with internal and external stakeholders including the management of the expectations of regulators.
  • Undertake process improvement projects as required.
  • Provide committed support for the success of relevant functional teams.

About you

We're seeking someone from within our workforce with experience and attributes that include:

Professional Lead Auditor status in OHS, Environment or Quality

  • Extensive knowledge and industry experience relevant to the business unit.
  • 7+ years' demonstrated experience in incorporating best practice into audit processes in large organisations.
  • Extensive current knowledge and understanding of state and federal legislation.
  • Knowledge of relevant area of assurance requirements and associated systems, and any inherent or potential risks associated with these.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders and work collaboratively to reach agreed outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing executive papers, board submission, external communications and process improvement methodologies.
  • Ability to identify and escalate relevant risks, assurance issues and compliance management.
  • Highly developed communications and written skills with ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences.
