A rewarding leadership opportunity exists for either a Grade 4 Registered Psychiatric Nurse, Grade 3 Social Worker or Grade 3 Occupational Therapist to join the Secure Extended Care Unit and broader Northern Area Mental Health Service at Northern Health.


The Role:
Diversion and Liaison Team Leader - Secure Extended Care Unit

The SECU Team Leader position is responsible (but is not limited to) demonstrating:

  • Support to clinical staff in the provision of clinical care for consumers experiencing psychiatric illness/disability
  • Provide high level clinical expertise within the SECU Team with respect to the assessment and treatment of consumers with complex mental health related needs and their family/carers.
  • Provide active leadership and support to SECU clinicians (and clinicians of broader NAMHS) aimed at optimising the capacity to undertake skilled and effective clinical assessment, decisionmaking, careplanning and servicedelivery activities that reflect the highest possible standards of good clinical practice.
  • Participation in service development, quality initiatives and research will also be required. The role will involve providing additional disciplebased supervision arrangements and supporting students on placement.
  • Act as the point of liaison between SECU inpatient team, NAMHS treating team and other community services during the assessment, treatment and discharge phase of the consumers journey.
  • Consistent with the inclusive and mutually supportive culture of the SECU Team, the Team Leader, at times, maybe expected to deploy their expertise to assist broader community team functions.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Demonstrated ability to provide specialist consultation and care with evidenced based interventions and intensive support to assist in better outcomes for consumers and families/carers.
  • Demonstrated clinical expertise in assessment, risk management and decision making in the delivery of treatment and interventions to consumers, maximizing participation in collaborative recovery and wellness planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to liaise, collaborate, manage conflict and negotiate with other services.
  • Highly developed organisational, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills including competent use of relevant information technology and electronic patient record systems
  • A sound working knowledge of the philosophical foundations, processes and environments that support recovery; including major types of treatments, therapies and targeted interventions and their contributions to innovative recoveryoriented service delivery approaches
  • The ability to build key working relationships with other key NAMHS leader positions that provides inreach support and expertise advice on access to SECU / SECU liaison service.
