The City of Parramatta is currently looking for an experienced Media Officer to join its Corporate Affairs team to develop, deliver and manage Council's media activities in line with its strategic goals and objectives.


About the role


You'll be responsible for supporting Council regarding media management issues and for contributing to the development of the City of Parramatta Council's media management program and activities.


On a daily basis you will:

  • Support the media team to monitor news cycles and prepare briefings and media responses as requested
  • Support the implementation of proactive and strategic media plans for Council and the Lord Mayor
  • Assist the team to research and write media releases, speeches, briefings and other written material
  • Collaborate with Corporate Affairs and Marketing teams to connect with local, metropolitan, and specialised media.
  • Attend events and activities and provide all relevant background and preparatory information for activities
  • Bridge connections across the Council, ensuring that valuable corporate insights are readily shared and utilised
  • Join forces with the team to engage with government bodies, professional associations, and vibrant community groups across a diverse spectrum of media topics
This position involves working flexible hours, including occasional nights and weekend work.

About You,

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, including extensive experience in preparing media releases, statements and supporting material.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and negotiation skills, as well as excellent time management and organisational skills.
  • Experience in developing and implementing effective media campaigns and managing issues.
  • Ability to maintain a network of contacts across a number of stakeholder groups including media and government.

Degree qualification in Communication, Journalism, Politics or Public Relations or another appropriate qualification combined with at least five years of experience.

  • Specific qualifications in media relations or communications. Knowledge of current government policies, structures and processes.

What's on offer
We are offering an attractive total remuneration from $98,129 to $108,038 plus 11% superannuation.
