The Department of Justice and Attorney-General's Justice Reform Office(JRO) is seeking a Principal Policy Officer to help develop a whole of government strategy to improve outcomes for women and girls who have been accused or convicted of crime. In this role, you'll use your strong policy and communication skills to collaborate with diverse groups, including women and girls with lived experience, to develop a strategy for reforms across Queensland government.
We're looking for someone with strong project management skills, the ability to gather and analyse information, work with stakeholders and think innovatively and strategically.
The ideal person would also have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
The Principal Policy Officer, Policy and Strategy of the Justice Reform Office of the JRO will be responsible for providing strategic policy advice, conducting research and analysis and providing support in relation to delivering recommendation 93 (and associated recommendations) of the Women's Safety and Justice Taskforce Report Two, namely to develop and implement a whole-of-government strategy for women and girls in the criminal justice system as accused persons and offenders ('the strategy'); and a monitoring and evaluation plan to measure and monitor outcomes achieved across the criminal justice system.
Your key responsibilities
• Through the Manager (Strategy), Policy and Strategy, provide timely advice to the Director, Policy and Strategy.
• Support the Manager to develop and implement a whole-of-government strategy for women and girls in the criminal justice system as accused persons and offenders; and a monitoring and evaluation plan to measure and monitor outcomes achieved across the criminal justice system.
• Identify, research and analyse complex policy issues relating specifically to women and girls as accused persons and offenders within the criminal justice system and provide support with responding to queries and reporting requirements of the Women's Safety and Justice Taskforce as and when necessary.
• Provide high level advice on relevant policy, legislation and programs, including the preparation of submissions, memorandums, reports, briefings and ministerial correspondence.
• Liaise and consult with government and non-government organisations about policy and legislation.
• Support inter-departmental and inter-agency meetings.
• Undertake other tasks as directed by the Manager and Director.
