Clinical Nurse - Emergency Department, Integrated Medicine, Emergency, Child and Youth Services - Cairns

Cairns Hospital is the largest major hospital in Far North Queensland, offering referral services from Torres Strait, south to Tully and Jumbun, and west to Croydon. The Cairns Emergency Department provides services for both paediatric and adult patients from these areas. The Cairns ED receives one of the highest number of retrieval patients (fixed wing and helicopter) in the state, making the acuity and variety of patients incredibly interesting and engaging.

The department is a 24 hour, 7 day a week facility. The ED has 27 acute beds, including 3 dedicated resus bays, a 12 bed short stay unit, a 9 bed paediatric unit, and a number of models such as fast track and rapid access, meaning that staff are exposed to a variety of working environments within the one department.

Staff within the Cairns ED will receive and exposure to an extremely wide range of clinical conditions, no one day is the same. The nursing cohort is made up of approx. 280 head count of nursing staff, from Novice Nurses through to Clinical Nurse Consultants. There are a wealth of opportunities for professional development, career progression and personal growth. The education offered in the Cairns ED is second to none, daily in-services are provided to all nursing staff, and there are a wide range of training programs run in house to ensure staff receive the best training, and have the opportunity to develop their skills.

We are a culturally sensitive department and service a large ATSI population. The model of care is a multidisciplinary team focus. The department has a Zero Tolerance to Violence program in place.
