The key role of the Principal Engineer will be to lead in the electrical design and consultancy discipline, steering the business towards continued success.
Focused on expansion and fostering strong client relationships, my client seeks an individual who is driven to achieve optimal results, possesses solid technical skills, can lead projects from start to finish, and serve as a proficient client liaison.
Responsibilities
- Take ownership of the design delivery within your team and uphold the quality of their work.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to team members to support the company's ongoing growth.
- Collaborate with other Principal Engineers and Directors, engage with clients, address their needs, generate reports, create specifications, conduct site inspections, supervise testing and commissioning activities, ensure compliance with regulations, standards, and all company policies.
- Lead electrical engineering design efforts and coordinate team tasks effectively.
- Act as the lead for electrical aspects of projects, overseeing resources and ensuring high-quality project outcomes.
- Offer technical leadership, fostering the professional development of engineers in the electrical team.
- Guide junior engineers and uphold sound engineering practices, from drawing procedures to document control.
- Prepare and deliver designs, reports, calculations, and specifications.
- Conduct technical project reviews and compile concise reports summarizing key findings.
- Support Directors in managing project finances.
Travel and work schedule flexibility
Skills and Experience Required
- BEng or Meng., Chartered status or progressing towards it.
- At least 5-7 years of prior consultancy experience, demonstrating consistent career advancement.
- Strong technical proficiency in Electrical Design Engineering.
- Experience in electrical design, including administrative tasks, drawing, and project documentation preparation, with the ability to both perform and delegate.
- Understanding of coordinating and managing multi-disciplinary projects effectively.
- Proficient in site inspection, test witnessing, and contractor supervision.
- Adept at mentoring and overseeing the work of junior team members to senior engineers.
- Proven track record of managing, leading, and successfully delivering projects in an engineering design consultancy.
- Familiarity with Mechanical, Electrical, and Public Health Engineering (MEP) and cross-disciplinary design across all design phases.
- Proficiency in report and specification writing, calculations (Dialux, Relux, Amtech), as well as familiarity with AutoCAD, REVIT, and/or Microstation.
- Experience in developing designs based on fundamental principles would be advantageous.
