Purpose of the Role


As a part of our growth strategy, we have an opportunity for a Subcontracts Manager, to join our Melbourne based business.

This role reports to the Director, Project Support, and Administration based in Melbourne and functionally to Senior Procurement Manager, based in the UK.


This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, hard-working, experienced Subcontracts Manager with sub-contract experience who has delivered to projects across a range of sectors and is seeking their next challenge to develop their career in a renowned worldwide business.


The Subcontracts Manager, is responsible for the successful co-ordination, oversight and delivery of functional support deliverables associated with procurement and sub-contracts of the ADF Deployable Bulk Fuel Distribution capability.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Lead a small Supply Chain team to successfully deliver the project for the entire lifecycle.
  • Assist to develop flow downs to contract documents to achieve consistency of requirements between prime contract and the corresponding subcontracts.
  • Work with the function and project teams to draft, review and negotiate RFTs and SOWs for subcontracts.
  • Provide advice and assistance to project managers and other business stakeholders on all subcontracting and procurement activities related to program of work.
  • Liaise with Legal, Functional, Project Management/ Australian Industry Capability (AIC), Engineering, Finance and Commercial stakeholders.
  • Develop procurement strategies and priorities and lead their delivery through strong stakeholder relationships and understanding program requirements.
  • Manage and develop strategic suppliers/partners including prequalification of new suppliers.
  • Negotiate subcontract provisions, execute, manage and closeout medium to complex subcontracts.
  • Manage performance of subcontracts and subcontractors, ensure compliance with prime contract and SOW requirements as well as WFS policies and procedures including import/export regulations.
  • Raising change to subcontract, based on agreed changes to Prime contract.
  • Monitor and report subcontract cost including AIC requirments, schedule and status and recommend or implement corrective action as necessary.
  • Store, track and maintain appropriate records and contractual documents in nominated configuration tool.
  • Participate in the development of process improvement initiatives and value for money opportunities.
  • Identify and mitigate risks, issues and opportunities with suppliers by determining root cause and developing mitigation strategies, and
  • Fulfil other duties and responsibilities that may be required as determined with your managers from timte to time.
Key Requirements

  • Qualification in a relevant study e.g. Supply Chain Management or Business Studies.
  • 5 years procurement experience in a similar operating environment (preferably Oil and Gas, Manufacturing, Construction or Defence industry)
  • Extensive knowledge of all realms of supply chain management (e.g. procurement, subcontracting, expediting, logistics, inventory management & material control).
  • Working with international suppliers including managing the international transportation and importation of goods & materials.
  • Effective leadership, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Training and mentoring experience
  • Demonstrated experience with a recognized procurement system; preferably, Oracle (Fusion).
