An exciting opportunity exists for a talented and motivated individual to join the Delivery and Strategy Branch as Senior Behavioural Insights Specialist at the Department of Premier and Cabinet.

The Senior Behavioural Insights Specialist is a unique role in the Victorian Government's Behavioural Insights Unit (BIU) in the Department of Premier and Cabinet.

The BIU is an internal consultancy that collaborates with areas across the Victorian government, using evidence from psychology, behavioural sciences and behavioural economics, as well as design thinking to make policies and programs simpler, better and easier for citizens, and more cost-effective for government.

The Senior Behavioural Insights Specialist will lead and deliver behavioural insights projects and provide advice on policy areas that can range from health, education, environment to workforce recruitment and service delivery. Our new specialist will be motivated and passionate about applying behavioural science to improve public purpose outcomes. They will collaborate with a dedicated experienced team of behavioural science specialists and have the opportunity to further grow their expertise as a behavioural insights practitioner.

Responsibilities
  • Initiate, lead and contribute to major behavioural insights projects across the Victorian Government to improve policies, services or products by applying behavioural science frameworks, principles and evidence.
  • Undertake desktop research and reviews of the latest behavioural science and economics literature to distil and translate relevant insights and apply learnings to complex policy problems in high quality reports and policy briefings.
  • Conduct behavioural, qualitative and quantitative research using appropriate methods, and undertake analysis, accurately interpret the results and distil key findings for a broad audience.
  • Design, implement and help to evaluate behavioural interventions using rigorous methods such as randomised controlled trials.
  • Initiate, manage and maintain effective working relationships with other branches within the department, other government departments and non-government organisations including proactively monitoring and pursuing opportunities to use behavioural insights in support of government policies, programs and services.

Requirements

As our ideal candidate, you will bring:

  • Demonstrated experience in applying behavioural insights to solve problems such as policy and service challenges, including undertaking behavioural analysis, intervention design or evaluations.
  • Highly developed relationship management skills and ability to build collaborative partnerships with clients, team members, senior leaders and stakeholders to influence and deliver effective outcomes.
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to translate complex technical information in a clear, compelling way to inform decisions, including strong presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated capacity to deliver work products to a high standard by independently setting clearly defined objectives, prioritising competing work priorities.
  • Advanced conceptual, critical thinking and problem solving skills with sound judgment and capacity to make decisions and recommendations.

Please note that a qualification in Behavioural Sciences, Psychology, Economics or Public Policy or law would be highly regarded.
