Why Your Role Matters:

UNSW Canberra has established a new campus in Canberra's City centre. UNSW is currently working within the Canberra Institute of Technology, Reid Campus. In 2024, UNSW will welcome its first undergraduate students on campus.

UNSW will continue to expand its student, staff, and industry presence on the site, and from 2026, UNSW will open new buildings as part of its Stage 1 development.

This role is new to UNSW Canberra City and will evolve as the campus and user groups grow.
The Team Lead currently supervises two Team Administrators. These positions support several functions across UNSW Canberra City.


The position reports to the Head of Student Life and Experience works closely under the guidance of both the Project and Services Manager and General Manager, UNSW Canberra City.


Responsibilities:

  • The Team Lead provides two key services:
  • Managing UNSW Canberra City central service point; and
  • Delivering an engaging student experience through events, activities, and the provision of services.


The Team Lead is responsible for a variety of different administrative and service functions, with a key focus to deliver high quality service, putting the client experience as the primary focus of all activities.

The role is expected to develop and maintain a broad range of knowledge and expertise across student services and is responsible for the case management and resolution of student enquiries and administration, as well as coordination of experiential opportunities for students and industry.


Who You Are:

  • Level 6:
  • A degree, normally with subsequent relevant experience to consolidate the theories and principles learned, OR
  • Extensive experience (combined with specialised training and/or Diploma or Certificate level education), leading to either the development of specialist expertise or to the development of broad knowledge, in technical or administrative fields, OR
  • An equivalent level of knowledge gained through any other combination of education, training and/or experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage moderately complex tasks/ projects with strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Excellent communication ability, including the ability to effectively communicate both on technical and nontechnical levels, the ability to negotiate and communicate with influence.
  • Highly developed organisational skills, including ability to effectively manage multiple competing priorities to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, influence and guide staff.
  • Demonstrated experience providing effective customer service and support to clients at all levels.
At Level 7

In addition to level 6 above:

  • A degree with a depth of subsequent relevant experience to consolidate and extend the theories and principles learned, or
  • Extensive experience and management and or specialist expertise; or
  • An equivalent level of knowledge gained through any other combination of education, training and/or experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail for deliverables produced.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to liaise effectively with all levels of staff and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting projects and initiatives, monitoring, and delivering projects within agreed timeframes.
  • Superior time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW's aims, objectives, and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
