Why This Role is Important


The Associate Lecturer in Systems Engineering is a key position within the School of Systems and Computing (SYSCOM), and the Capability System Centre. This role plays a crucial part in enhancing the capabilities of the school and centre in digital systems engineering and mission engineering. Reporting to the Capability System Centre Director, the Associate Lecturer will play an active role in leading and supporting research activities across various systems and engineering disciplines to tackle present and future engineering challenges.

Responsibilities:
The Associate Lecturer role involves active participation in systems modelling, digital engineering, and mission engineering, particularly in managing complex systems. The position provides opportunities for growth in research or education, while managing a balanced workload. Core responsibilities include developing a cohesive teaching philosophy to motivate student learning, conducting classes, evaluating student progress, and offering support in both undergraduate and postgraduate courses following UNSW guidelines. Additionally, the role includes creating learning activities, providing feedback through different channels, and introducing innovative teaching approaches under the guidance of senior academics. The Associate Lecturer also seeks to nurture individual student development through personalized consultations and enhance overall student progress by giving course-related advice to achieve favorable learning outcomes and improve employability.

Who We're Looking For:
Our ideal candidate should have:

  • A PhD in the field of systems science or systems engineering related to the design, architecture, and analysis of technical or socio-technical systems, preferably with experience in areas such as model-based systems engineering, mission engineering, digital engineering, and decision analytics that complement the expertise of the School/Centre.
  • Demonstrated expertise in mathematical and statistical modeling, including proficiency in writing computer code to develop optimization algorithms and conduct statistical analysis on complex datasets.
  • A proven track record in research with high-quality, high-impact outcomes, demonstrating the desire and ability to consistently achieve research excellence and lead in research endeavors.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively network and engage with a diverse range of students and staff.
  • Experience in teaching and education design, development, and delivery at the undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
  • Proficiency in using educational technologies and online teaching methods.
  • Evidence of the ability to support and motivate students from diverse backgrounds while promoting student equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives.
