About this role:


Cross River Rail (CRR) is the largest transport project currently underway in Queensland, it will set the foundation for a world-class, integrated public transport system in SEQ that will transform Queensland Rail and the way we operate.

The Major Projects Integration (MPI) Group Function was established in late 2019 with the sole purpose of managing the delivery and assurance of the Cross River Rail and ETCS mega projects.

Our team operates in a matrix structure and is comprised of delivery and service functions. We are part of the broader Queensland Rail organisation.


We have an opportunity for a motivated, passionate, dynamic and results driven professional with an Accounting background to join our MPI Finance team in the role of Principal Finance Business Partner we are offering as a permanent role.

This role will be responsible for leading the reporting, budget and forecasting across the MPI Portfolio.

There will be significant focus on partnering with stakeholders including the MPI Senior Leadership Team and Key External Stakeholders including the Alliances and Cross River Rail Delivery Authority to establish best practice financial process and performance reporting solutions are implemented and sustained within the business.


In addition to above you will also play a key role in the following deliverables:

  • Actively engage and assist the business on key commercial and governance issues.
  • Support and collaborate with the key business stakeholders to develop operational and capital budgets and forecasts.
  • Provide strategic commercial and performance advice to Senior Leaders on both the performance of the business and core projects which the business supports.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to develop and enhance the effectiveness of core finance business processes.
  • Lead core finance processes including reporting, budgeting and forecasting processes and present the outcomes to management.
  • Lead the development of selfservice agile performance reporting.

At a minimum to succeed at a minimum you will have the following experience/skillset and pre-employment qualification:

  • Stakeholder Management across all levels and ability to partner with the business and form strong and collaborative relationships including influencing, consultation, liaison, negotiation as well as oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate strong budgeting, forecasting and reporting skills
  • Experience analysing financial performance and providing financial, accounting, and commercial advice
  • Provide financial mentoring support across the range of MPI key stakeholders.
  • Thrive in an environment where you work from the ground up and contribute to identifying, developing and implementing new processes and procedures.
  • Have experience within a Projects environment supporting project lifecycle financial requirements
  • High level of skill in modelling and analysing financial performance
  • High attention to detail and strong literacy and communication skills
  • CA/CPA qualified with 5+ years' experience in a similar role
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and SAP ERP (R3) skills is highly desirable
  • Working knowledge of BW/BI reporting tools (e.g. Power BI, Tableau, etc) is desirable
