The Role:

An exciting opportunity exists for an enthusiastic Community Peer Support Coordinator (Consumer) to join the team at Northern Health.

We would love to have you join us as we strive to improve the support we provide to consumers and expand our lived experience workforce.


To be successful in this role you will have:

  • A personal lived/living experience of:
  • Mental health challenges and/or accessing mental health services
  • Be able to provide support and oversight to our peer support team
  • Be able to provide peer support to consumers coming into the service
  • Be able to develop and maintain positive working relationships with key stakeholders and various multidisciplinary teams
  • Build understanding of the effectiveness of the role of the lived experience workforces in clinical mental health services

About Northern Area Mental Health Service (NAMHS):

The Consumer Peer Support Coordinator will be responsible for providing ongoing support and oversight of our consumer peer support workers in our community and residential settings across NAMHS.

The service provides a number of outpatient mental health services, including two Community Clinics (Noogal and Hotham Street), Hospital Outreach Post-Suicidal Engagement Service (HOPE), Northern Prevention and Recovery Care Service (NPARC) and the Northern Community Care Unit (NCCU).

Consumers of these services are provided mental health treatment and support by multidisciplinary teams consisting of nursing, allied health, medical and lived experience staff, which work together to provide a high standard of care.

Lived Experience expertise complements the professional knowledge and skills of clinical staff
