The Role:

NWAMHS Hume Community Team is searching for a suitably experienced Lead Consumer Peer Support Worker to join our team.


The Hume Community team is a large, supportive and dynamic team made up of staff that are truly passionate and motivated in supporting consumers and their families/carers.

We provide a comprehensive range of specialist mental health services to people who reside in the local government areas of Moreland and Hume.


The Lead Consumer Peer Support Worker provides guidance, orientation and mentoring of other Peer Workers within the team and potentially the wider service.

The Lead Consumer Peer Worker supports the development of Peer Led initiatives.

The Lead Consumer Peer Support Worker will also work with consumers of the Hume Community Team with the objective of supporting consumers to establish /re-establish themselves in a community environment, including helping them access the range of community supports they need; maximising recovery and resilience for our consumers

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Been or are a first-hand user of mental health services
  • Experience as Consumer Peer Support Worker
  • A desire to lead and support others
  • Ability to contribute of your unique range of personal skills and knowledge to the consumer group at the 5 Ways cafe, during groups and activities/appointments held during usual operating hours;
  • A desire to connect, nurture and support the journey of other consumers
  • Formal qualifications with relevance to Consumer Peer Work are desirable but not essential
