Your role


Coordinate and conduct internal audit activities and support the internal audit team in undertaking other related activities to add value and improve the effectiveness of risk management, control and governance processes.


Support Internal Audit to embed consistent and integrated internal audit and assurance practices, as well as promoting a pro-active and positive assurance culture.


What you'll do

  • Undertake all phases of internal audit work for small to medium size engagements in accordance with relevant policies and professional standards
  • Assist is the completion of other audit engagements and activities in accordance with relevant policies and professional standards
  • Prepare, interpret and action the scope, objectives and terms of reference of the audit engagement
  • Prepare reports and correspondence which effectively communicate findings and recommendations to support senior managers and executives in making informed decisions
  • Conduct peer review and provide technical guidance to less experienced internal or contract staff
  • Liaise and work across Divisions and other relevant stakeholders to ensure effective interface between program development, planning, service design and policy implementation, and that audits are completed efficiently and meet stakeholder requirements
  • Undertake audit related projects and investigations in compliance with applicable standards, as required by the Director or senior management
  • Partner with management in the Department on assurance activities, develop and maintain a range of collaborative networks across the Department / Division / Business Centres to support the delivery of assurance and provide feedback on the Internal and its processes
  • Assist and contribute to a professional 'assurance report service' including the preparation, coordination, collation and distribution of various papers and reports for the Audit and Risk Committee
  • Coordinate debriefing meetings with management to discuss findings and possible solutions. Work with management at all levels to develop and finalise actions plans to improve controls, processes, and operational efficiencies
  • Assist the Senior Internal Auditor with mentoring staff on project work being undertaken to support the successful delivery on key milestones and outcomes

What we're looking for

  • Sound knowledge and experience in undertaking a range of internal audit and assurance activities in accordance with applicable standards
  • Experience analysing and interpreting legislation, policy, procedures, findings and best practice to formulate value adding recommendations through clear and concise audit reports
  • Good understanding of organisational governance principles, practice in the public sector, financial management, as well as continuous audit and process improvements and working cooperatively with management

Essential requirements:

  • Tertiary/professional qualifications in quality assurance, audit, risk management (such as Certified Internal Auditor, CPA, CA or Certified Information Systems Auditor) or equivalent experience and commitment to ongoing professional development
  • An ability and willingness to travel in New South Wales to undertake audit activities
