In WPHU, EHOs are responsible for the investigation, surveillance and control of cases and settings associated with notifiable conditions, including conducting case interviews, assessing high risk settings and identifying and actioning public health control measures as required.


Working closely with the Team Lead, Public Health Officers and Medical Team, the EHO will conduct interviews and assessments, identify high risk groups and provide public health recommendations.


The Western Public Health Unit is a key element in the Victorian public health response to infectious diseases and other health issues.

The Unit is part of a system of three metropolitan Public Health Units, Western (WPHU), North-eastern (NEPHU), South-eastern (SEPHU) and six regional Public Health Units providing a state-wide system of public health delivery and oversight.


About You
To be succcesful in this role, you will have;

  • Bachelor of Applied Science (Environmental Health) or equivalent including eligibility to be a member of Environmental Health Australia
  • Demonstrated experience as an environmental health officer, including demonstrated knowledge and experience in public health theory and practice
  • High levels of technology literacy with ability to learn and master online data reporting tool(s)
  • Ability to interact in an empathetic and nonjudgmental manner with culturally diverse populations and persons experiencing a wide range of social conditions
  • Strong problemsolving skills, with attention to detail and the ability to use sound judgment in responding to client issues and concerns
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities at short notice and able to work effectively in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
  • Ability to use discretion, maintain confidentiality, and practice ethical conduct
