What is a Team Leader Horticulture Maintenance for Hume?


Working as part of the City Parks and Open Spaces department the Team Leader Horticulture Maintenance has responsibility to deliver quality horticulture maintenance and development.

As one of the Team Leaders in Horticulture, you will lead a dedicated in-house team of 3 staff, who are responsible for the high-profile district centre landscapes providing sound direction and support.

Hume is split into 3 distinct regions with one company providing numerous maintenance crews on a daily/weekly basis following set programs and supervised by one Team Leader.

The Team Leader Horticulture Maintenance oversees the delivery of maintenance and renewal works provided by contractor crews within the area and work in with the other Team Leaders on various projects.

Duties of a Team Leader Horticulture Maintenance might include but not limited to:

  • Develop and implement the scheduling and programming of horticultural maintenance works across the Municipality.
  • Develop and implement the annual horticultural refurbishment program across all sites.
  • Assist in the development of minor landscaping projects across the Municipality.
  • Competently and safely operate plant and equipment, maintain plant and associated equipment.
  • Coordinate, supervise, and develop staff and apprentices. Monitor contractors' skill level to ensure quality service is provided.
  • Assist in the provision of a safe workplace including implementation of Policies and organisational procedures contained in Hume Safe, compliance with Occupational Health & Safety legislation.
  • Improve services, review work practices, procedures and purchase of equipment.

About You
As a Team Leader Horticulture Maintenance, you will have demonstrable skills and qualifications including but not limited to:

  • Advanced Certificate in Horticulture or similar qualification and/or relevant experience in the
- horticultural profession.

  • Demonstrated experience in the delivery of high standards of horticultural maintenance practices and principles.
  • Proven ability in maintaining and further developing horticultural assets.
  • Demonstrated experience in the supervision of staff and subcontractors.
  • Proven and demonstrated ability to lead and motivate work teams.
  • Proven and demonstrated ability to effectively plan, Implement and monitor works programs.
  • Proven and demonstrated ability to work within set budgets.
