What is a Lead Gardener for Hume?
Working as part of the City Parks and Open Spaces department the Lead Gardener has responsibility to lead a small team in horticulture and landscape maintenance in a one of three high profile precincts within Hume City Council.
This role entails work in the highest level of horticulture maintenance and enhancement that Council provides such as annual bedding, feature garden beds, formal street scapes and major parks.
It comes with high expectation of service delivery in a very active and dynamic department that prides itself on innovation, customer service, respect, and collaboration.
Duties of a Lead Gardener might include but not limited to:- Responsible and accountable for leading a team in horticulture maintenance in sites such as but not limited to, parks, facilities, feature beds, reserves, streetscapes to name but a few.
- Provide safe and efficient work practices.
- Use of fieldbased tablet computers for recording all pre start checks, risk assessments and JSA/Swims daily and for each site.
- Work as part of a work group in the maintenance and development of various parks, reserves and other designated areas.
About You
As a Lead Gardener, you will have demonstrable skills and qualifications including but not limited to:
- Qualifications required in Horticulture and relevant experience.
- Ability to lead and work as part of a team and individually.
- Written and oral communication skills including the ability to identify and resolve minor operational problems and issues.
- Experience in record keeping and documentation of works performed.
- Plant identification and culture knowledge including knowledge of indigenous plants.
