Your role


You'll be a part of our Brisbane M&A team focusing on Energy & Resources (E&R) and work with lawyers across all of our offices.

Working closely with partners Ben Zillman and John Hedge, along with the wider E&R team of Senior Associates and junior lawyers, you will gain exposure to the most complex and interesting transactions in the market.


At Allens, our structure means you'll get exposure different Partners within your practice group and a wide variety of work.

We encourage our lawyers to find their niche and specialise in areas they're interested in, while building a strong foundation across their field.

As a Lawyer or Associate in our M&A - Energy & Resources team you will advise on:

  • Acquisitions and divestments in the energy and resources sectors
  • Joint ventures, JOAs, shareholders agreements and farmin arrangements
  • Other commercial contracts in the sector, including rail and port arrangements
  • Project development approvals, including negotiating agreement for land access and native title;
  • Occasional matters in the Land Court or National native Title Tribunal dealing with project approval objections or compensation disputes
  • Regulatory matters involving energy and resources operations


In Brisbane, we have a blue chip energy and resources client base, and you will be working with a range of clients including several of the world's largest mining and oil and gas companies, as well as a number of leading private companies active in the sector.


This is a permanent, full-time opportunity however flexibility matters at Allens, so if you are seeking hybrid working or are looking for flexibility in your work, we would be happy to discuss what arrangements would work best for you.


About you

You will have:

  • Experience working in the energy and resources sector at a leading Queensland or Australian practice or international firm
  • Experience advising on M&A transactions and/or project development
  • An enthusiastic interest in the sector, a willingness to learn and a growth mindset
  • An ability to effectively manage small to medium size matters and play a key role as part of a team working on larger matters
  • A willingness to build an understanding of clients and develop effective working relationships with them
  • An ability to establish a professional profile and internal networks including across all our offices, as we work as an integrated team across jurisdictions.
  • A desire to learn, grow, network, mentor others
