The Role:


An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Mental Health Clinician (Grade Three Occupational Therapist/Social Worker/Psychologist or Grade 4 registered Psychiatric Nurse) to join the Hume Community Team within Northern Health's Mental Health Division.

We are located at the Broadmeadows Hospital.


The Hume Community team is a large, supportive and dynamic team made up of staff that are truly passionate and motivated in supporting consumers and their families/carers.

We provide a comprehensive range of specialist mental health services to people who reside in the local government area of Hume.


The Intake/Duty Clinician facilitates a timely and appropriate response to referrals from other Area Mental Health Services, GP's and Private psychiatrists into the clinic and provides referrers with a helpful, proactive and solution focussed approach/outcome.

The Clinician works in collaboration with the Team Leaders and Consultant Psychiatrist in appropriate allocation of consumers to treating teams.


Where Duty cover is needed the Intake/Duty Clinician supports the team by providing assessments (telephone and face to face) for both non-registered and registered consumers (whose treating team are not available) and triages as appropriate.

The clinician supports the team in follow up for consumers whose treating team are away and have urgent needs.


The position requires extensive experience in the provision of specialist services in public mental health settings and highly developed clinical expertise.

This is a full time position but part time hours may be available by negotiation.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • The appropriate qualifications as a Clinical Psychologist, Social Worker, Occupational Therapist or Registered Psychiatric Nurse.
  • At least 5 years experience post qualification
  • Passion about contributing positively to the lives of consumers with mental illness and their families
  • Ability to provide general and discipline specific mental health assessment and intervention
  • Ability to work as part of a team but also able to work autonomously
