Senior Risk Manager, Business Risks & Governance

The Chief Risk Office is responsible for the risk management and compliance frameworks, together with the Legal and Secretarial function for several entities in Australia and New Zealand.

The Risk Management team designs risk management and compliance processes and systems and works with the business on their establishment and maintenance. This spans the strategies, processes and reporting procedures necessary to identify, measure, monitor, manage and report the risks at an individual and at an aggregated level, to which we could be exposed to.

You will report to the Chief Risk Officer.

Your Role

  • Support the CRO in providing and embedding a risk framework for the reinsurance entities in Australia. Your role will focus on business related risks including financial, operational and strategic risks across the Life and P&C reinsurance businesses, and you will take a lead role on ensuring a strong risk governance
  • Support on the above matters will cover all aspects of the second line of defence (2LOD) including but not limited to:
    • developing and maintaining local risk and compliance frameworks which are aligned with MR Group policies and comply with local regulatory requirements
    • conducting risk and control assessments
    • triaging and support in managing events and issues as they arise
    • preparing and running training and educational sessions
    • supporting the business when new risk initiatives are rolled out or updated; and
    • preparing and presenting reports to management and Board
  • Take the lead on developing risk analysis & reporting to both management & Board
  • Take a lead role on ensuring the GRC (Governance, Risk & Compliance) System is "fit for purpose" and operation as intended. Where this involves external parties, you will manage the relationships
  • Take the lead on developing and mentoring other risk staff including the Risk Analyst
  • Actively promote the Target Risk Culture and good Risk Outcomes across the organisation

Your Profile

  • 7+ years' relevant risk management experience
  • Business-side insurance industry experience
  • Experience in governance, risk and compliance frameworks, including developing and implementing risk and compliance frameworks, policies and procedures
  • Ability to think strategically, with a deep understanding of the organisation's overall strategy and risk appetite
  • Experience working in a global matrixed structure
  • Ability to manage projects, including risk management initiatives, ensuring their successful delivery
  • Comfortable in presenting to large audiences up to Board level
  • Tertiary education in a relevant field
