Your new role


Reporting to the Head of Internal Government Portfolios, this role responsible for contributing to the construction, management and oversight of the internal global government bond portfolio.

This includes contributing to researching and developing the investment process, making investment recommendations and undertaking portfolio management processes.

The purpose of this portfolio is to provide fixed income beta exposure and generate alpha through security selection and relative value strategies in funded and unfunded forms.


Key Duties will include:

  • Delivering investment recommendations to support the portfolio's performance and cost objectives. This is an internally managed global bonds portfolio and its derivativesbased overlay aims to provide benchmark beta exposure and generate alpha from security selection and relative value strategies.
  • Contributing to the development of investment processes and tools, including relevant quantitative models, to support the investment strategy and management of the portfolio.
  • Conducting research and analysis of new and alternative investment strategies and associated build out and back testing of quantitative models relating to beta replication, security selection and relative value alpha generation and/or cost minimisation.
  • Contributing towards the management of the internal global bond portfolio within prescribed mandates. This will include the timely and accurate updates of investment processes and models, preparation of investment recommendations, monitoring of performance and oversight of position exposures and risks.
  • Researching portfolio construction techniques and development of attribution, risk and scenario tools and methodologies across portfolios.
  • Managing portfolio and compliancerelated risks and adhering to policies and procedures in line with terms of internal mandates. Working closely with Capital Markets teams to ensure timely and accurate implementation of portfolio investment decisions with consideration to transaction costs.

What you'll need

  • Experience in the financial sector, within an institutional investment manager or investment bank.
  • Strong quantitative analysis and modelling skills, fluency in programming languages eg Python / R and related toolkits.
  • Research and portfolio management experience of fixed income portfolios that generate alpha through security selection and relative value strategies.
  • Strong knowledge of instruments across rates and currency.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills with an attention to detail.
  • Strong organisation skills with an ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to synthesize complex information into concise conclusions.
  • Ability to communicate in a simple and effective manner for different level of audiences and stakeholders.
  • Willingness to learn and contribute to team initiatives and activities, including contributing to team discussions on investment issues.
  • Experience with Aladdin is a plus.
  • Superior tertiary qualifications in Finance/Economics or Maths/Engineering or a related field. CFA or other relevant postgraduate qualifications ideally.
