The WHS Advisor provides hands on support implementing and delivering Council's Safety Management Systems to designated high risk areas, including but not limited to Council's Works and Waste Depots, and assists managers, employees and contractors to achieve high standards of safety performance.

Essential:

  • Tertiary qualifications within relevant field of WHS or related discipline and/or equivalent industry experience.
  • Practical understanding of operational/trade (horticulture, construction and/or waste management) work environments.
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing WHS and/or safety systems in an operational / trade (horticulture, construction and/or waste management) environment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the NSW WHS Act and Heavy Vehicle National Law.
  • Ability to provide advice and support to enable internal customers to meet WHS legislative and organisational requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate to a broad range of internal customers in relation to both strategic and operational matters.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and discretion on staff issues.
  • Ability to work flexible working hours.

Desirable:

  • Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment.
  • Experience coordinating return to work arrangements.
  • WHS audit experience.
  • Experience in Local Government.
  • To meet Council's WHS requirements and in accordance with Council's Covid19 Safety Plans, this position has been identified via risk assessment to be required to be fully vaccinated for COVID19 or provide evidence of an approved medical contraindication. If a medical contraindication certificate is provided, it will be assessed against a risk assessment and the decision of whether Council accepts the medical contraindication certificate, will be based on operational needs._
