John Paul College is seeking an exceptional and dynamic Deputy Principal – Head of Secondary to join our Executive Leadership Team from January 2025.

The successful candidate for this role will play a crucial role in supporting the Principal and the Secondary School leadership team in implementing the College's strategic vision and plan, ensuring the continuous improvement of teaching, learning, and school management aligned with the AITSL Standards for Principals.

This Executive leadership role at the College will be responsible for effectively leading and managing all aspects of the Secondary School inclusive of curriculum development, major initiatives, academic and pastoral wellbeing of students and behavioural standards.

This role requires a leadership focus and practice which centres on leading our secondary school and our Sport & Activities programs with a focus on improvement and innovation in line with the College values of Mutual Respect, Integrity, Compassion, and Excellence.

Some of the specific responsibilities of this role will include:

Strategic Planning and Leadership:

  • Participate actively as a member of the Executive Leadership Team to formulate and implement strategies and policies that enhance educational programs.
  • Lead initiatives to support the College's commitment to being an employer of choice, focusing on staff selection, recruitment, capacity building, performance management, and mentoring.
  • Uphold and promote the Christian Ecumenical ethos of the College.
  • Champion continuous improvement in line with the College's Strategic Plan.

Curriculum, Teaching, and Learning:

  • Collaborate and lead a team of Secondary Deans to ensure the College is providing effective academic programs and teaching practices.
  • Oversee the John Paul College pedagogical framework to maintain high standards in teaching and learning.

Staff Leadership and Development:

  • Lead and motivate Secondary School staff, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Set and prioritise goals for the Secondary School staff, ensuring alignment with the College's improvement agendas.
  • Oversee staff performance and professional development, ensuring comprehensive development plans are in place.
  • Mentor and support staff, fostering a positive culture within the College.

Student Development:

  • Promote the College's MICE values, ensuring they are reflected in student behavior and culture.
  • Monitor student performance and implement programs to help students achieve their potential.
  • Support student wellbeing in collaboration with teaching and College staff.
  • Oversee student behavior management, ensuring a safe and supportive environment.
  • Maintain direct involvement in the enrolment process for new students.

Parent and Community Engagement:

  • Foster parent and carer engagement as partners in the educational journey of students.
  • Promote technological advancements and digital learning systems within the Secondary School.

Facilities, Resources, and Budget Management:

  • Manage Secondary School facilities, ensuring infrastructure supports academic and co-curricular pursuits.
  • Establish and maintain the budget for the Secondary School, assessing performance against financial targets.

Community and Events:

  • Maintain a presence at major College events and engage with the wider community through newsletters and publications.
  • Promote a sense of community, respecting and involving international and cultural groups.

About You:

You are an experienced and visionary educational leader who is passionate about fostering a high-quality learning environment and promoting continuous improvement. With a deep understanding of the AITSL Standards for Principals, you are committed to excellence in teaching, learning, and school management.

Your qualifications include a master's degree in education or a related field and hold a current QCT registration.

You have a proven track record of leadership in an educational setting. You possess strong strategic planning skills and can effectively implement policies and initiatives that align with the College's strategic vision.

As a leader, you are known for your ability to motivate and inspire staff, fostering a culture of professional growth and development. You are adept at performance management, mentoring, and building capacity within your team. Your leadership style is collaborative and inclusive, ensuring that all employees of the College feel valued and supported.

You have excellent communication skills and are able to articulate and model the College's core values of Mutual Respect, Integrity, Compassion, and Excellence (MICE). Your commitment to the Christian Ecumenical ethos of the College is evident in your actions and interactions with the school community.

You are knowledgeable about current educational trends and best practices, and you are proactive in incorporating these into the Secondary School's programs. Your ability to oversee and enhance the curriculum, teaching practices, and student welfare programs ensures that students achieve their full potential.

You are skilled in managing resources, including budgeting and facilities management, ensuring that the infrastructure supports the academic and co-curricular pursuits of the students. You are also experienced in engaging with parents and the wider community, fostering strong partnerships that enhance the educational experience.
