The Opportunity:

  • The Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) is recruiting for a PEL 1 Assistant Director, Communications within the Communications and Corporate Relations branch.
  • We're looking for a talented and creative communication professional who loves coming up with new ideas and implementing them to make a positive impact on a target audience. Your excellent written and verbal communication skills will be needed to turn your ideas on how to promote the Australian Parliament House into reality. If you've had experience conceptualising communication strategies and delivering results based on the strategies, then please read on.
  • The role is based in Parliament House so you'll get the unique opportunity to experience firsthand the energy at the place where Australian democracy happens. You'll be engaging with many people across DPS who ensure the Australian Parliament House operates in an efficient, effective, and safe way. The role is within the department's Communication and Media team which is responsible for managing the department's external communication and marketing functions, as well as media and social media, internal communication, and intranet content.

  • Under limited/general direction undertake duties in accordance with the agreed standards for the PEL 1 classification.
The duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • 1. Identify opportunities to establish strategic partnerships that will result in greater visibility of the tours, exhibitions, artwork and dining options at the Australian Parliament House
  • 2. Develop and implement communication strategies and campaigns that reflect Department of Parliamentary Services' priorities and strategic themes.
  • 3. Develop and implement initiatives to increase the organisation's social media reach in Australia and key overseas markets.
  • 4. Compose social media messages, editorial, web content and promotional copy, as well as proofread the work of other team members.
  • 5. Contribute as required to other work of the communications team.
  • 6. Support the development and progression of other staff in the team.
  • 7. Provide advice and recommendations to the Director of the Communications and Media Team.
  • Employees of DPS are required to be able, and to be seen to be able, to provide professional advice and services to all Senators and Members without favour or prejudice._
