The Team


The Assistant Director, Community Engagement works in the NSW State Office, as part of the Business Operations team, to support a geographically disperse network across NSW and ACT.

Business Operations is responsible for a number of key tasks critical to the delivery of a federal election. The team works together to achieve high quality outcomes in tight timeframes.


They are a cohesive and high performing team that has a significant focus on effective communication with other business areas across the AEC to achieve key objectives.

This includes National Office, other state and territory offices and the divisional network across NSW/ACT.

The Opportunity


The Assistant Director Community Engagement manages the planning, review and delivery of engagement programs at NSW State Office including but not limited to those targeting Indigenous, CALD, homeless, prisoners, youth and/or people with disabilities in NSW for the 2023 Referendum.


To excel you'll have:

  • Highly developed ability to lead and manage staff while developing capabilities, encouraging career development, and embedding professionalism.
  • Sound knowledge and experience in successfully managing and delivering results within time restraints and with competing priorities.
  • Highly developed problemsolving skills, with the ability to maintain a logical and rational approach under pressure and in the face of competing priorities.
  • Proven ability to communicate with influence, negotiate outcomes and manage complex stakeholder relationships, including across a geographically dispersed network.
  • Proven conceptual and analytical abilities with sound knowledge of change management practices and techniques to enable innovation.
  • Demonstrated personal drive and integrity whilst achieving results within legislative and budget parameters.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the issues affecting a range of communities with diverse needs such as Indigenous, CALD, homeless, prisoners, youth and/or people with disabilities.
Desirable

  • Relevant qualifications or experience working with people from diverse backgrounds or/and community engagement.
  • Knowledge of, or ability to, quickly gain knowledge of Australian electoral law, processes and practices and parliamentary systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant Commonwealth frameworks.
