Your responsibilities will include:

The Hobart Class Combat System (HCCS) is at the forefront of advanced naval technology and provides the strategic advantage for Defence.
Based at Garden Island, you will join the broader Naval Combat System (CS) Engineering Team within LMA.

The System Safety Engineer will act as a point of contact between the waterfront Naval Combat System (CS) Engineering team and the wider LMA System Safety function.

As part of this role, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to undergo safety training and achieve qualifications towards becoming a SQEP in system safety.

The key responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting Preliminary Hazard Analysis for the changes within the HCCS scope with support and guidance from System Safety SMEs within the broader system safety engineering function.
  • Conducting Pre-Engineered Change & Impact Assessments (PECIA) for HCCS minor engineering changes
  • Supporting the development of Preliminary Hazard List (PHL)
  • Developing DDGSPO Combat System Engineering Change artefacts and supporting the execution of Engineering Changes (EC)
  • Assisting with the preparation of Computer Program (CP) Test Observation Reports (TOR)
  • Interacting with the System Engineering Integration Team and Transverse Engineering disciplines

In addition to this, as you become more confident and competent in the system safety discipline, these responsibilities will expand to include:

  • Providing System Safety engineering guidance and advice to the broader Naval Combat System (CS) Engineering Team
  • Conducting System Requirements Hazard Analysis (SRHA), Health Hazard Analysis (HHA) and Environmental Hazard Analysis (EHA)

About you:

To be successful in securing this position, you will have:

  • Exposure to the systems engineering lifecycle including requirements definition and analysis methods, system and subsystem design, test and integration
  • Exposure to the Integration, Test and Evaluation of CS products into Naval Platforms or equivalent complex Military Systems having challenging constraints
  • Exposure to risk identification & mitigation practices, including seeking opportunities for continuous business improvement
  • Experience working with a broad set of internal and external stakeholders to achieve common goals.
  • Willingness to develop towards becoming a System Safety Engineer,
  • Strong communication skills, including technical writing and the ability to develop/publish high-quality plans, processes & procedures
  • Degree qualifications in a relevant Engineering Discipline
  • An Australian NV-1 security clearance and ability to access/handle Export Controlled technology, data and information

The ideal candidate should possess some experience in Systems Engineering and demonstrate an interest in System Safety. You will receive System Safety training to qualify as an SQEP in system safety.

Special Requirements:

Applicants must be Australian Citizens and are required to hold and maintain AGSVA security clearance at the required level.
