Process Operator

Mount Gibson Iron Limited is an established independent Australian producer of premium quality direct shipping iron ore (DSO) with assets in the Kimberley and Mid-West regions of Western Australia.

Mount Gibson's flagship operation is the Koolan Island mine, located approximately 140km north of Derby in the Buccaneer Archipelago in the Kimberley. The mine is Australia's highest-grade producer of direct-shipping grade hematite, with an average Ore Reserve grade of 65.5% Fe.

About the role:
We are now seeking to employ an experience Process Operator at our Koolan Island Operation on a 7 Days On / 7 Days Nights / 7 Day Off (12-hour day) roster from Perth, Broome or Derby.
Reporting directly to the Crushing Supervisor, the primary focus of this role is to work as part of a team to provide safe and efficient operations of both the crushing and shiploading plants and all associated mobile equipment.

Key tasks and responsibilities

  • Operating mobile equipment (within accredited competency) as required
  • Bobcat
  • Mini Excavator
  • Rock breaker
  • Front end Loader (992, 930 IT or equivalents)
  • 785 Komatsu Dump Truck (or equivalent)
  • Inspecting the workplace to identify and correct hazards and equipment failures.
  • Conducting and maintaining good housekeeping of fixed plant and work areas.
  • Undertaking regular sampling, testing and other quality control activities
  • Adjusting the process to meet production parameters.
  • Starting up, shutting down, monitoring, and adjusting the production process
  • Learning appropriate responses to malfunctions or anomalies in the production process
  • Maintaining accurate records of sampling / quality control
  • Assist with shipping activities as instructed:
  • Berthing and Warping of vessel including heaving lines and communicating with ship's crew/line boat
  • Assist other departments within competency
  • Assisting in breakdown and planned maintenance

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

  • Current C Class Drivers licence minimum
  • Front End Loader ticket
  • Skid steer loader ticket
  • EWP - desirable
  • Minimum 2 years competency in similar mineral processing plant.
  • 4WD Competency
  • Sound computer literacy
  • Good communication and inter-personal skill
  • Exposure to a computerised maintenance management system
  • Ability to work closely in a team environment.
  • Current Confined space competency < 2 years
  • Current Working at height competency < 2 years
