The Role
Due to the nature of this role we would be looking for someone with a legal background.
We are looking for someone to fill a part time 0.8 FTE for the right candidate.
The role of Case Manager exists to provide claims and investigation management as well as advisory services to members of MDA National.
The role's key function is the technical management of all aspects of the claims process from notification through to resolution. The role is supported in this regard by a case management system, which provides the tracking, monitoring and reporting elements of the cases, allowing the Case Manager to exercise his or her expertise.
Reporting directly to the Manager, Cases & Investigations, this role will include (but not be limited to) the following:
- Management of litigated and un-litigated claims
- Participation on the in-hours and after-hours medico-legal phone roster
- Provision of advice on a wide range of issues including privacy, mandatory reporting, fitness to drive, open disclosure, and terminating therapeutic relationships
- Drafting Coronial and Police statements and reports
- Preparing responses and submissions on behalf of Members to Health Complaint Entities
- Assisting Members with health, disciplinary and performance matters
- Advising and assisting Members with Medicare audits and investigations
- Instructing external Solicitors as necessary in litigated claims, Coronial inquests, investigations, employment and College disputes
- Report preparation for:
1.Board
2.Cases committee
3.Reinsurers
- Delivering presentations and preparing articles
Skills & Experience
The ideal candidate will have the following:
- LLB (relevant part-qualifications may be considered)
- Exposure to or experience in dealing with medico-legal issues (or a related discipline)
- Interpersonal skills – ability to relate to a wide range of people
- Superior level of oral and written communication
- Legal qualifications are preferred
- Significant experience in a claims management or medico-legal environment would be an advantage
- Skilled in managing medico-legal claims
