The Position

We are currently seeking a Structures Inspector to join our team on a permanent basis based at our Perth Airport head office with occasional travel required (around 100 days of travel per year away from home). The Structures Inspector conducts inspections of railway structures (Bridges, Culverts, and Sign Gantries) and assesses the condition of our infrastructure. The role reports to the Senior Structures Engineer and offers a promising career path focused on the rail infrastructure encompassing various facets of civil and structures engineering related to the management of a 5000km rail network.

Role Responsibilities

  • Conducting inspections of railway structures such as bridges and culverts, and recording reports following the Railway Code of Practice, as instructed by the Senior Structures Engineer.
  • Accurately and succinctly documenting structures inspection reports using Arc's systems.
  • Suggesting appropriate maintenance actions and priority items based on inspections and documenting recommendations in inspection reports.
  • Coordinating with Regional Engineers and Structures supervisors for necessary repairs as per the Railway Code of Practice.
  • Utilizing a 4WD vehicle to travel across regions and rail access roads for inspections.
  • Performing quality-related inspections for construction and maintenance activities pertaining to the structures.
  • Supporting the Senior Structures Engineer in developing work programs for capital and operational projects.

Required Qualifications

  • Cert III as a minimum (Civil Construction), Cert III in Railway Infrastructure, or other related trades like Carpentry, fabrication.
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in inspecting road or rail infrastructure in the transport, mining, or heavy industries sector.
  • Individuals with a construction background in the above industries with an appropriate trade qualification are encouraged to apply.
  • Proficiency in specialised inspection software and basic knowledge of Word and Excel is necessary.
  • Experience in operating a 4WD vehicle and other small plant equipment is advantageous.
  • Must possess an Arc Infrastructure protection officer qualification.
  • Current WA Driver's Licence - Manual.
  • WA Construction Safety Awareness Card and permits for Working at Heights and Confined Spaces, or the ability to acquire them.
