Paediatric training
The Victorian Basic Paediatric Training Consortium (VBPTC) supervises basic paediatric training at the Royal Children's Hospital (RCH) and Monash Children's Hospital (MCH), along with eighteen outer metropolitan, regional, and rural training sites.
To qualify as a Basic Paediatric Trainee (BPT) under the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP), applicants must secure an accredited position, with recruitment managed by the VBPTC during the JRMO year.
The positions
- 2025 Junior Resident Medical Officer (JRMO) positions are now open for applications.
- Candidates can select positions from the Metropolitan Stream (MS), Extended Rural Stream (ERS), and prevocational/unaccredited stream.
The Metropolitan Stream focuses on inner and outer metropolitan Melbourne centers, with integrated regional and rural rotations.
The Extended Rural Stream offers opportunities for six trainees to complete 18 months of Basic Training in eastern, northern, or western rural and regional Victoria, appealing to those interested in a paediatric career in regional areas.
The RCH also provides JRMO positions outside of accredited training for individuals seeking paediatric experience. These positions do not count towards RACP's paediatric training but offer valuable exposure to the field.
Eligibility
To apply for a 2025 JRMO position, candidates must have completed their intern year (or equivalent) and be eligible for GENERAL medical registration in Australia by February 2025.

Applications are open from 21st May to 9th June 2024. Failure to submit a complete application by the deadline will make candidates ineligible to proceed.
