What you'll be doing


The End of Life Service Development Officer (SDO) is responsible for leading the development of the ISLHD End of Life service model that integrates subspecialties, enhances inpatient and community focused approaches with the aim to provide high quality end of life care for patients and seamless care for patients and families across all settings.

The End of Life Service Development Officer will provide strong leadership whilst overseeing the strategic direction of enhanced end of life care in the ISLHD.

The position will be situated within the Division of Aged Care, Rehabilitation and Palliative Care and report to the Palliative Care Clinical Services Manager.

This position will undertake project management activities including project planning, stakeholder engagement, change management, service development, implementation and evaluation of activities and milestone reporting.

The End of Life Service Development Officer (SDO) works closely with the specialist palliative care services and collaboratively with Ministry of Health (MoH), Agency for Clinical Innovation (ACI), eHealth, LHD managers and clinicians to facilitate the implementation of priority projects.

The role will support the delivery of the
_NSW Health End of Life and Palliative Care Framework_ (the "Framework") priorities and local implementation of the
_Clinical Principles for End of Life and Palliative Care _guideline.

This is a temporary Part time 32 hours per week leave relief position until 30 June 2024 with the possibility of extension.


All NSW Health workers are required to have completed an up-to-date course of a COVID-19 vaccine (3 doses for Category A roles, 2 doses for Category B roles) which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA).

New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.

Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Please provide proof of vaccination if available.

Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated extensive experience in service development, implementing new service models, evaluating projects, developing policies and procedures and meeting funding requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience and /or understanding of end of life and palliative care issues and priorities at local, State and National level.
  • Proven ability to communicate and negotiate change and improvement strategies with clinicians, executives and other stakeholders through all organisational levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret complex information rapidly and accurately as well as an advanced understanding of data quality and the ability to use data in problem resolution.
  • Highly developed skills in the tracking and reporting of funding and the ability to present clear and concise verbal and written proposals and updates.
  • Excellent skills in the use of MS Office, project management, communication, data collection and relevant software.
  • Evidence of a current unrestricted drivers' licence and the ability to maintain. Ability and willingness to drive/travel as the role requires.
