About the Role
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a skilled Senior Production Engineer to join the Santos team.
Based at our global headquarters in Brisbane, this position reports to the Team Leader Production Engineering and will be responsible for extracting insights and learning from production data, facilitating technical information flow in the leadership chain, de-risking critical business decision making and identifying opportunities to maximise Cooper Basin production.
Key accountabilities include but are not limited to:
- Provide agile production engineering specialist support to the frontline teams as required
- Collaborate with and support initiatives from the Production Engineering Frontline and Tactical teams
- Production analyses to drive strategic change in operational activities, (e.g. Gas and Oil production optimization opportunities (GPOT/OPOT), U/B vs O/B workover, Drawdown analysis, PI calculations/algorithms, IPR analysis, water flooding, cycling well strategies, soaping, blowdown, etc.)
- Production analyses to optimize wells and facilities operation. Such production data analytics will be used to direct resources and capture opportunities for growing production.
- Owning the opportunity registers (by assets) for all PE activities, from IWB to surface debottlenecking and backout mitigation plans
- Close collaborative work with the Integrated Production System engineers to embed the systems optimization and PtL strategies in the Production Engineering team
- Facilitate technical information flow and integration of Subsurface and Production Engineering systems.
- Well performance analysis on new and base wells and recommend actions to recover production.
- Support well failure analysis to improve well productivity
- Drive the data analytics to improve effectiveness and efficiency of the team, (e.g. predictive analytics)
- Identify opportunities to add capacity and improve EUR from existing assets
- Design, recommend and implement field trials for production enhancement opportunities and incorporate results into improved completion and well designs and operating procedures for future development
- Assist junior engineers to optimise and trouble shoot well performance issues
- Provide support/coaching/mentoring to new Reservoir/Production Engineering graduates and junior members of team
- Compliance with the Santos Management System (SMS).
- Compliance with the Santos Delegation of Authority (DOA).
- Compliance with the Santos Corporate Governance and Safety requirements.
Technical competencies for this role are:
- Strong reservoir production engineering knowledge (conventional and unconventional)
- Ability to challenge constructively and influence people
- Recommend and lead change initiatives and drive this through a performance mindset to achieve desired outcomes and an engaged team

About You
We are seeking for professionals with experience in the following:
- Production/Reservoir Engineering technical experience.
- Demonstrated work/industry experience in subsurface/production engineering
- Cooper Basin and Coal Seam Gas experience
- Experience working on mature late life conventional oil and gas fields.
- Well operations and surveillance, risk management, project management, leadership
- Practical experience across appraisal, development and operations phases of field life.
