About Our Client

As the Senior Communications Officer you will work for a Government department. The Government department works closely with industry stakeholders, research institutions, and other government entities to enhance biosecurity, manage natural resources, support rural communities, and facilitate market access for Australian products. Through its initiatives, the department aims to foster innovation, resilience, and growth within these critical sectors, ensuring they remain competitive and sustainable in a global market.

Job Description

Knowledge and experience

  • Project management, communications and graphic design experience are highly desirable.
  • Experience in preparing high quality written communication content across all platforms.
  • Experience in preparation and administering procurement contracts.
  • Understanding the concept of workplace diversity and its contribution to effective organisational performance.
  • Experience in managing a considerable workload and competing priorities.
  • Experience with stakeholder engagement, including liaising with internal departmental staff, industry, research organisations and universities.
  • Interest/experience in the fields of biosecurity and/or science would be an advantage.
Skills and capabilities
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to understand the audience and synthesise and present complex information in a variety of mediums.
  • High level project management skills, including the ability to think strategically, and identify and proactively implement effective solutions.
  • Highly developed analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation/communication skills.
  • Demonstrate a high level of attention to detail, self-drive and initiative.
  • Display a positive and proactive attitude and demonstrate flexibility and resilience in managing competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience building and maintaining effective working relationships with a range of government and non-government stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team to deliver a diverse range of tasks.

The Successful Applicant

Eligibility and other requirements

  • Citizenship - To be eligible for employment with the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry you must be an Australian citizen.
  • Security Clearance - This position requires a Baseline Vetting security clearance. You will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
  • Pre-employment Check - Your suitability for employment will be assessed through a pre-employment screening process. This process includes a requirement to undergo and satisfy a National Police Check and referee checks.
