  • Anglo American Steelmaking Coal**Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blastfurnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world. In Australia, we operate five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland's Bowen Basin, and have additional joint venture interests in steelmaking coal and manganese, as well as copper exploration projects underway in North West Queensland and Western Australia.

Job Description:

  • The Integrated Coal Chain team within Anglo American Steelmaking Coal Marketing creates value by working closely with Production, Sales and Logistics providers to optimise coal throughput while maximising coal quality opportunities and minimising logistics costs.


Reporting to the Operations Scheduling Superintendent, the Operations Scheduling Specialist is accountable for contribution to the maintenance, development, and execution of the Integrated Coal Chain Operations Plan.

This is a 12 month secondment or fixed-term contract based in our Brisbane Corporate Office on a 8 days on 6 days off roster (dayshift only) with flexible working arrangements available.

The role will be rewarding and varied and will involve the following:

  • Manage week of operation (live run) 3rd Party Rail, Port and Sampling and Analysis providers.
  • Lead and contribute to the update and maintenance of the Operations Plan for the Integrated Coal Chain including regular updates to:
  • CHPP wash, stockyard and train loading plans
  • Raw and product coal inventories and forecasts
  • Vessel schedules and forecasts
  • Rail schedules and forecasts
  • Preberth vessel coal quality
  • Coal terminal cargo handling instructions
  • Work closely with Sales, Production Operations, and key stakeholders to ensure the flow of updated information to all parties enables decision making that optimises the execution of the Operations Plan.

Qualifications:

  • To be successful in this role you will have the following:
  • Demonstrated experience in planning and scheduling activities
  • Broad understanding of the coal mining industry commercial & operations
  • Excellent quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Strong understanding of driving factors within a complex value chain.
  • High level of communication and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders to ensure maximum value is created.
  • Strong influencing and engagement skills.
