About the Position:

We are seeking an experienced Learning Facilitator to teach First Nations subjects at Torrens University Australia. This includes modules such as First Peoples' Culture, History and Healthcare, as well as Social and Emotional Well-being in Australian Indigenous Populations in our undergraduate and postgraduate programs. These programs are designed to prepare healthcare professionals such as Registered Nurses, Counsellors, Nutritionists, Naturopaths, Chinese Medicine practitioners, and more.

The Learning Facilitator will collaborate with the Health Sciences team to integrate Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander knowledge into the curricula, offering authentic firsthand experiences in the classroom. The primary goal is to assist educators in enhancing the understanding and proficiency of future healthcare professionals concerning unique health issues facing Australian First Nations peoples.

The ideal candidate will design and deliver engaging academic lessons that delve deep into the discipline. They will have the expertise and enthusiasm to conduct interactive learning sessions, shaping the healthcare experts of tomorrow. Additionally, they will provide ongoing academic support, oversee the development of culturally appropriate learning materials, and establish partnerships with relevant academic, industry, and community organizations, particularly those supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

About the Role

  • This position involves remote online teaching
  • Multiple casual positions are available
  • Initially, the role entails providing marking support for up to 3 hours per week from Trimester 3 onwards for 12 weeks

Your primary responsibilities will involve:

  • Collaborating with First Nations colleagues to lead initiatives within the Health & Education faculty in alignment with the University's educational principles
  • Incorporating Indigenous Knowledge into curricula alongside colleagues in the Health & Education and First Nations teams
  • Working with the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Liaison Officer to advance Indigenous Strategies across TUA from an Academic perspective
  • Engaging with various departments and teams within Torrens University Australia
  • Providing training and assistance to academics and professional staff in Health & Education
  • Leading the coordination of Australian First Nations People Subjects in Public Health
  • Developing educational resources to aid educators in embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge into their teaching activities
  • Delivering lessons and assessments using flexible, student-centered teaching practices that leverage suitable technology
  • Participating in establishing and sustaining partnerships with industry and the broader community, alongside colleagues
  • Contributing, where appropriate, to university governance committees, consultation groups, and industry accreditation procedures to ensure adequate inclusion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives
  • Completing necessary administrative duties

To succeed in this role, you should have:

  • Experience in innovative curriculum development and delivering exemplary Learning & Teaching practices in both traditional and online settings
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and contemporary issues
  • A Ph.D. or Master's degree
  • Capability to contribute to teaching leadership and administrative tasks
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a track record of fostering effective relationships with colleagues
  • A passion for shaping the future healthcare workforce through education
  • The ability to engage, guide, and inspire students at all levels

It would be advantageous to have:

  • Experience in social work, community services, or healthcare support in community settings
  • Expertise in Mental Health services
  • A postgraduate qualification in a relevant field
  • An emerging reputation in research and scholarly activities
  • The ability to engage in community outreach
