Our client, Department of Education, are currently seeking a Principal Project Manager (Business Transformation) for an enterprise Data and BI Implementation Program.

The Program

The EQIP Program is a transformational, multi-year program of work consisting of five projects. It will establish the department's first centralised, unified repository for all key data across the organisation, underpinned by robust data governance and quality control processes, to enable enhanced analytics and reporting capabilities that deliver priority intelligence and insights to school and corporate staff.

The program will strengthen the department's ability to support staff to make evidence-informed decisions that enable the delivery of quality education and early childhood services, and empower them through providing trusted, timely information in a form they can easily use and apply to their operational and strategic needs.

The Role

A Project Manager is required to join the EQIP Program to assist in the planning and delivery stages of the business transformation component for the projects. This is a rare and exciting opportunity for a highly astute, perceptive and strategic project leader who wants to play a key role in shaping up and establishing the data governance operating model for the Department.

Reporting to the Program Delivery Manager, the Project Manager will be able to work effectively within a broad range of business environments, applying judiciousness to manage vendor delivery relationships and guide a team of highly capable resources to best utilise their talents together.

Position Summary (business transformation)

We require a highly skilled Project Manager with excellent stakeholder engagement skills, an appreciation for the power of trusted information in supporting evidence-informed decision-making and strategic planning, and a drive for embracing the new and taking others on the journey. You will gain exposure across the department, working with business areas to understand their strategic priorities, and identifying the information and insights needed to support them in achieving successful outcomes.

Main tasks and activities

  • Assist in the planning and delivery of a high-profile multi-year program that will transform the department's approach to valuing and managing its information assets, helping enable the next generation of data analytics to ensure better and more equitable learning outcomes
  • Manage change management-rich projects over their full lifecycle, including project planning, stakeholder management and scope delivery within agreed periods.
  • Apply leaned project methodology elements and disciplines to a dynamic program, in a heavily governed environment.

Experience and skills

  • Experience operating within large and complex ICT programs of work with a strong business transformation component
  • Strong stakeholder management and engagement skills, with the ability to collaborate with business staff to help move the assigned deliverables forward
  • Strong problem-solving facilitation skills
  • Demonstrated experience working with multiple and different stakeholder groups concurrently
  • Demonstrated experience working within transformation programs/projects
  • Highly developed collaboration skills with business and technical stakeholders
  • Tenacious, well organised and able to manage people effectively
  • Demonstrated ability to self-manage with competing priorities
  • Experience in M365 tool set, including MS Teams and SharePoint
  • Experience with the use of Microsoft Project and RAID registers in a complex governance environment
  • Understanding of operating model design, data governance frameworks and data management principles, including technologies and processes, would be highly regarded
